What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution focused hypnotherapy is a form of clinical hypnotherapy. It is a positive, forward-looking combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis, rooted in an understanding of how the brain works, from emotional and current neuroscience perspectives. Whilst the past is acknowledged and respected, the therapy focuses on where you are now, how you would like to feel and what you would like to achieve, helping you to identify manageable steps towards your goals in a calm, positive and supportive environment.


What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is used to create a pleasant state of relaxation which is achievable by almost everyone. This helps to allow goals and intentions, new possibilities, to be taken on board by the sub-conscious mind. Relaxing and focusing in this way can also give you mental and emotional ‘time out’, which can help you to gain useful new perspectives and insight. These processes help changes to be made at a sub-conscious level, where unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour are usually stored.


Is it safe?
No one can be hypnotised against their will and even in a trance people can reject any of the suggestions given if they are not appropriate. Hypnotherapy is also totally natural and drug free.


Will I lose Control?
You will remain completely in control the entire time and you would automatically reject any suggestion that was inappropriate, not in your best interests or against your better judgement. Contrary to the image often portrayed in films, books and the media, hypnosis does not involve the therapist taking control of your mind. No one can hypnotise you against your will. Stage and gameshow hypnosis is designed to entertain and usually to make us laugh. Subsequently the ‘volunteers’ and contestants are carefully vetted and selected to be those people willing to behave in amusing ways.


Is it possible to get stuck in a trance?
No. You can leave the hypnotic state whenever you want to.


What does hypnosis feel like?
There is no universal ‘hypnotised feeling’, because everyone’s experience of hypnosis is different. The general feeling is of a deeply relaxed state, and you will be completely aware of your surroundings at all times. You may feel light (or weightless), or you may feel very heavy (as if sinking into the chair).
Most people find the experience very calming and relaxing, giving them a sense of peace, comfort and well-being. Often people leave the session feeling rejuvenated and refreshed as it’s similar to experiencing a couple of hour’s sleep!


Is hypnotherapy suitable for children and young adults?
Absolutely. It can be very effective for this age group.



Can you help me?
Your goal may be general, for example overcoming feelings of anxiety and lack of confidence; it may be very specific, such as improving your sleep, overcoming a fear of flying or feeling relaxed and positive during pregnancy and childbirth; your goal may be simply not to feel the way you do right now. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is incredibly flexible and tailored to each individual, to you.


Do I need to bring anything?

Yes, you need to bring a desire to change.  Clients who get the very most from their sessions truly commit themselves to the process and focus on making the changes they identify, which may include lifestyle changes. Full participation is needed because hypnotherapy is not something that is ‘done’ to you, it is a collaboration between therapist and client.


How many sessions will I need and how long do sessions last for?
Session length is approximately 1 hour.  How many sessions you will require depends on the sort of condition you are seeking treatment for.  Generally, most people need between 8 to 12 sessions, but phobias (e.g. spiders, needles etc.) can be dealt with in 4 sessions.  Stop smoking is one session which lasts for about 2 hours.


How much do sessions cost?
The Initial Consultation costs £60.  Each session costs £60.  Stop Smoking session costs £150.
